Hands up or will shoot

“Hands up/ Will shoot!”

In India, showing respect to deities and elders is a tradition rich in regional flair. In Odisha, they’ve mastered the "Chicken Wing Bow"—folding arms on their chest and bowing so low you'd think they're hunting for a lost contact lens. Down south, it's the "Face Plant Approach," where folks dive at the elders' feet like they’re scoring a dramatic goal, often multiple times for extra flair. Up north, they go for the "Knee Slap Special," aiming for the feet but usually hitting the knees. It’s like Twister with more reverence and less coordination.

When visiting temples, the classic gesture of raising folded hands above the head to seek blessings has taken a modern twist. Nowadays, those hands hold smartphones, capturing endless photos and videos of the deity. Our social media feeds are flooded with divine selfies and close-ups. This all reminds me of old movies where the bad guy’s goons would shout, “Hands up or I'll shoot!” Today, people are raising their hands to shoot... with their cameras! Whether it's deities, weddings, or street scenes, they're blocking everyone’s view and causing social media traffic jams. Who knew a threatening gesture could turn into the latest lifestyle trend? Times sure have changed!
