Substance over Form
Idealists, speakers, orators, and teachers often discourage judging by appearances, but we still do it in our personal lives without feeling guilty. People say not to judge a book by its cover and that appearances can be deceptive. Now, let's get to the point.
In the movie "Alai Paayuthey," Madhavan and Shalini have a secret marriage, which society doesn't recognize because they didn't publicly declare their relationship as husband and wife.
In contrast, in the older movie "Missiamma," the characters played by Gemini Ganesan and Savitri pretend to be married to get a job, and society accepts them as a married couple because they said they were married.
In these marriage scenarios, what's often seen as important isn't the presence of love but the public display of the marriage and how extravagant the celebrations are. This isn't a reference to a recent high-profile wedding; it's just an example.
